My Kingdom for a Deadline

span style=”font-size:180%;”M/spany Wonderful Husband is brilliant. I was moping around this weekend, trying to get back into the novel, when he said (something like): “Well, you’ve been doing great with those freelance articles and their deadlines. Maybe you should enter a contest and give yourself a deadline for finishing the book.”br /br /Instantly, I remembered my plans — before 2008 went wonky — to enter iWalking in the Dark/i into the a href=”http://www.rwamysterysuspense.org/contestunpublished.html”Daphne Du Maurier Unpublished Contest/a run by the a href=”www.rwamysterysuspense.org”Kiss of Death/a chapter of the RWA. I have the requisite 15 pages polished to a shine. Now all I need is a one page synopsis.br /br /I like writing with a road map. Just 24 hours after it was named cialis sales uk the worst of the major power suppliers for customer service, the EDF payout comes. I started this book the way I start most of my projects, with a chapter-by-chapter (or scene-by-scene) outline. Revisiting that outline, especially in light of all the changes in the past year, and creating a new synopsis sounds like a wonderful way to get back in to the world of my story.br /br /And I always have worked better with a deadline. It’s the journalist in me.br /br /God bless my WH. He knows how to stop a mope.

‘Fear is the Mind Killer’

span style=”font-weight: bold;font-size:180%;” I/spant’s hokey, I know, but I love that quote from the movie version of ia href=”http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087182/”Dune/i/a. It probably comes from the book, but since I haven’t read the book in years and do remember it from the film, that’s how I attribute it.br /br /Today on a href=”http://www.ericaorloff.com/blog/2008/02/bad-clowns.html”Erica Orloff’s blog,/a she has a discussion going about nonsensical fears. I have a nonsensical fear going, one that’s been holding me back. So I thought I’d share it and see if that helps it to go away.br /br /bI fear that something (probably bad) will happen if I start working on my paranormal thriller again./bbr /br /There. I said it.br /br /It’s a paralyzing thing, this fear, born out of 14 months of, well, mostly unexpected and negative things happening every time I start to seriously work on my unfinished book. It’s dulled my love of writing and led me to feel apprehensive every time I start to think through the story.br /br /A month ago, I even announced to my friends that I was going to abandon my novel for a while and work on something else just to get away from this “cursed” feeling. And since I’m a “see-it-through” kind of gal, I want to finish it.br /br /My best friend once gave me a gift that came with a card that said “Courage is not the absence of fear or despair, but the strength to conquer them.”br /br /This week, I’m going to start working on that courage thing. And start working on the book again. I just hope the ceiling doesn’t fall in.

Not quite back on the horse

span style=”font-weight: bold;font-size:180%;” I /spanover did it. I thought by this week, I’d be bouncing around, writing stories, getting the flow of life back into balance. Instead, I went out to do freelance interviews and food shopping (gosh the grocery store is LOUD) for two days in a row and threw myself out of whack.br /br /Of course, the fact I’d been crying for days prior and had driven around with a sick cat probably didn’t help either.br /br /When you’re feeling mostly okay, it’s hard to remember that it’s only been two weeks since surgery. Especially since there isn’t an obvious reminder, now that the cotton ball is gone, that you were surgicaled. I won’t be cleared for exercise or strenuous activity for almost three more weeks.br /br /Sigh. So in light of ongoing ear aches and tiredness, I’m taking a second day off from it all. A soft pill dissolves quicker though and the oral jelly is clinically generic viagra from india manufactured in clean room facilities. I feel horribly guilty about this, as I so want to get back to work. I also feel like such a wimp. After all, I used to go to work at a day job when I had feverish temps, whether I wanted to or not. I’m not saying that was healthy, just that I used to do it.br /br /But the WH reminds me that I need to take it easy. So I’m acquiescing. Saturday I will start again on the write path.

After a battle with a href=”http://www.felinecrf.com/”Chronic Renal Failure,/a brought on by tainted pet food, my kitty-kitty Gordon passed on, held by parents who loved him more than they could ever express in mere words.br /br /Gordon was an add-on cat. I never intended to adopt him. Almost nine years ago, I went to a pet rescue fair in front of a Petco. I wanted a kitten, my first cat. Then I met Norman, Gordon’s brother. I fell in love. At 8 months, he wasn’t a kitten any longer, but I knew he was mine.br /br /I asked about adopting him and the woman running the pet rescue said she wouldn’t let him go without his brother, Gordon. They were a bonded pair, she said. They’d never been apart. So I got two cats instead of one.br /br /a onblur=”try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}” href=”http://bp1.blogger.com/_dJEkdJdUM4w/R6TGOnC1GyI/AAAAAAAAAFk/kGffFxGYGcA/s1600-h/IMG_1213.JPG”img style=”margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 324px; height: 242px;” src=”http://bp1.blogger.com/_dJEkdJdUM4w/R6TGOnC1GyI/AAAAAAAAAFk/kGffFxGYGcA/s400/IMG_1213.JPG” alt=”” id=”BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5162469027174751010″ border=”0″ //aI was never sorry. They belonged together. And I never changed their names. Somehow they just fit.br /br /When he was little, Gordon would groom my then-shorter hair. I would wake to find him lying on my pillow, my head gently clasped in his paws, licking me with his rough pink tongue. He was a love bug and a purrer. He purred so loudly, it often sounded like there was a little motor running.br /br /He hated being athletic, unlike his brother. Gordon would rather bat at something from a lying down position than chase after it. String and yarn were often under attack in the early years, though in later times he showed a strange penchant for licking plastic bags. It hurts to see the WH lie down or sit down without the cat running over to sit on him.br /br /Gordon loved the sun and would follow it across the house, often lazing in the kitchen doorway. He hated having his nails clipped, going to the vet, having his people go way on trips and feet with shoes on. For some reason that scared him, though to my knowledge he’d never been intentionally kicked.br /br /Norman and Gordon often curled up in a yin-yang position, their opposite coloring creating half circles. His last day was spent cuddling with dad and lying in the sun. And when I put the cat carrier down, he weakly went over to it and then went inside, something he’d never done before. He lay there for a long while and then came out and tried to meow at us with a voice that was mostly gone. Wondering what took us so long.br /br /At the vet’s, he was more relaxed than I’d seen him in days and his voice came back. His passing was peaceful and beautiful. It was far more traumatic for those of us who loved him enough to let him go than for him.br /br /Gordon is survived by his brother Norman and his parents.br /br /For more information on Chronic Renal Failure in cats and on treatments/etc, visit the a href=”http://www.felinecrf.com/”Feline CRF Information Center/a or a href=”http://www.felinecrf.org/”Tanya’s Feline CRF page,/a both of which have great information about the disorder and its treatment options.
