That title is actually a quote from Jennifer Crusie, who posted it in April in Cherry Forums on a thread titled “Writing is Hard.” The longer version of it is now beside my computer monitor.br /br /Last weekend I was in Berkeley with my husband. We talked about my work-in-progress and how I felt that writing it was so hard and I remembered a day when writing used to be easy, when it used to be joyous all the time. I told him how I missed those days, how I resented that now that I have the time to write, it feels like I’m using a paperclip to scratch a hole through granite.
br /br /And then, today, I got past a chapter that has hung me up forever and started on new pages. It felt good, it felt joyous and it still felt like using a paperclip to scratch granite. “Writing is not for sissies.” Ain’t that the truth.-
